Daily Post 21 – Happy Thaipusam!

Happy Thaipusam everyone!!! It’s happening tomorrow on the 31st of January 2018 (Wednesday)! It’s a holiday here in Malaysia!

This public holiday is part of the Hindu culture, where all these people are pierced through their mouths, tongues, back and such without bleeding. It’s somehow a mysterious force that allows them to be able to do so without screaming in agony.

These people that are pierced are the lucky ones that have received something special they were praying for and thus participate in this festival where they walk the streets from a certain place to the temple.

I used to love going to the festival in Penang where the roads will be filled with stalls for quite a stretch. I was still very little then.

After the processions are over, they take coconuts and throw them to the ground in some sort of ritual.

These festivals can be scary to see, but if you are to look at it from another perspective, you can see how humans can perform incredible feats with divine help.

Believe or not to believe, it is up to you.
